PHYSIOTHERAPY
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy treats people of all ages with
different physical problems caused by illness, accident, pregnancy or
ageing. You can also come for physiotherapy as a preventive treatment
against injury, something we call rehabilitation in the sporting
environment. Megan uses a caring approach to the treatment and
rehabilitation of back
and neck pain/stiffness, whiplash, headaches, rehabilitation after
surgery, sprains and strains and pre/post pregnancy problems as well as
many of today’s sporting injuries. Physiotherapy uses physical healing
methods, some of which will be a hands-on treatment.
The physiotherapist is recognised by the Health
Professions Counsel for assessment, advice and treatment of
musculoskeletal disorders (problems that affect the muscles and joints).
Megan is State Registered and is a Member of the Chartered Society of
Physiotherapists.
When you come for physiotherapy, Megan will examine
you and work hard to restore you back to normal movement and function.
This will be done using a number of different techniques that she has
trained in and specialised in over the past 10 years of service.

If you have never had physiotherapy before this is
what to expect.
The assessment will start with some questions about
your general health and why you have come for physiotherapy. What your
current symptoms are and when they occur. Most importantly, what you
would like to achieve out of the physiotherapy sessions. This will take
between 10-15 minutes.
You will need to undress down to your underwear or
bring some shorts with you to change into for your assessment. You will
then have a physical examination,
where the physiotherapist will look at your body as a whole, in both
standing and moving positions and will use manual tests specific to your
problem. All this will aid
the physiotherapist in making a diagnosis of your problem and
identifying the areas to be worked on
(30 mins). You will then be given some advice and exercises (10 mins).
Physiotherapy requires a course of treatments,
usually between 4 – 6 sessions, depending on your needs and severity of
condition. Your following appointments will be around 30 minutes which
will mainly consist of treatment from the above categories.
If you book in for massage only you will NOT be
given a full physiotherapy assessment.
